347

So what if I came down the stairs today

Like a stampede of the wild

And ran to meet you at the door

Only to jump in your arms and embrace

Would you choose to congregate then

If I chose to make so much of you

Every time you show up

Right there in front of everyone

Would you then congregate

And what if then

I gave you every Tuesday night

Or Wednesday

Or Friday lunch

At your house

Or your favorite place

At your convenience

And brought you dinner

And watched your favorite movie

And spoiled your kids

And laughed on cue

Would you congregate then

What if I have you a title

A title of your choosing

And you could read all the books you wanted

And all the things that were convenient

But none of the books I wanted

Or the things I needed

Cause life, right

But, with that perfect as you wish pleasure

Would you congregate

346

Follow me

Through a fine day

Make me nice

Nice to smile, to love

And if it is all a grind

Marry me resolute

To reflect you

And bury me

Since you are the Lord

Self is no longer

A priority

Since you are the Lord

Smooth out

The rough patches

And should you choose

To whisper to me

In any way

I will be glad

345

Wherever you want us

Is fine

We rest in our quarters

We recline and ride

We exhale in confident peace

Now know

We will mush

And we will row

And climb

To paint

By your numbers

But the perfect center

Of the open hand

Is up to you

Completely

Wherever you want us

Is good

344

Never stand near there

Theres a weak spot

Cause so much happened

Rude year after year

And still

See they never talked to me

Just like they never talked to you

They’re just rich lonely people

Nice enough, yes

But not kind enough

To those of us

Who don’t check all of the boxes

It felt good tonight

To upstage the talent

On their court

In so many ways

Good to be

So obviously mountainous

Especially when

Proud papas and mamas

Would never mention

That best thing

To save their life

343

Paper-thin scales

Over reticulating muscle

Glove-like oneness

Liquid skin

Through a finish line

Seven times a calling

To the maker and way

Of the dreams dreamers dream

Pushed through to rejoicing

Framed in refreshing rain

Culled from a season

Of eerie bleak and dull

That crawled

But didn’t kill

Leading me now

To know

I do trust

The smirk

342

Glee-gettin’ God

Got it for me

While my enemies

Stared green-eyed

Drooling and scorning

All jealous like they do

Mad cause Daddy made it right

Vindicated me

Wrapped me in mercy

As a line of fans

Who you called victims

Came running back

Once the door

Slammed behind you

It’s a shame

That you never admitted

That your death

Was self-inflicted

It’s a shame

That you are

So unhappy and known

Terribly known

Grossly known

Every pathetic perimeter

341

I forgive you

Backstabber

See a color

Name a color

But absolution

Don’t rename you

See a color

Name a color

Yes absolution

Don’t undo you

See a color

Name a color

Alas, eleven still stand

Watching you swing

See a color

Name a color

340

Some people

Start every morning

With orange juice

Freshly squeezed

With pulp

And get really crass

If they can’t

They pitch their fit

Scream a bit

Stomp a stomp

Even throw a glass

And I admit

That I dont know

How I feel about that

Cause I just don’t care

About orange juice

That much

On the one hand

The overreacter is a child

For decades in need of a belt

But on the other hand

It’s me, a tirade king

Minus the orange juice

339

A whoop needs joy

Wrestles up the throat

For a stage

Rally cries need armies

Warcries need a cause

But I can’t always tell

Which lips dripped the whistle

Cause no eye gives it away

And the bodies

Give not one clue

So it could be

Anyone or noone

I wish

Joy was obvious

Knew worthy

Enough to shout

338

When it all dries up

Chips and falls away

There is a love

An unselfish love

What’s that?

An unselfish love

That doesn’t chirp “I can’t”

As a self-limited prophetess

Or “Woe is me”

As a blind beggar

who blames you for his darkess

Who can’t remember

That he poked out his own eyes

With his own hands

Over time

Tardily and sloppily

With a million broken promises

But yes

Take away that blue

And that pink

That pitiful pair

Who only ever loved being loved

Without a shred of true humility

Or sincere care for humans

And then you will see

As we are now seeing

While jumping in rain puddles

That there is a love
