Sun-starved splitting anguish
Like that of a yelping dog
That’s been hit by a distracted driver
Running headlong into the woods
In a full blown panic
In amazing pain
With no one to call it’s name
It rains down on me
In sheet after sheet of violence
And I stub my toe
On the futile cause
Of trying to envelope you
With only care
And I stub my toe
And scream in protest
For the martyr on the pillar
To end her self-flagellation
Way up high in the center
Of the busy city circle
It is pitiful to watch
And I shake everywhere
